Kindergarten promotion is all over. The kids are gone. My room is almost empty. I don't like this time of year; it's so sad. I would rather be getting everything out and be getting ready for a new class of students. But changes come, so......
I want to say thank you to all the parents of my students. We had a wonderful year and it was largely because of you. The field trips were great, the class parties were fun, and the support you gave was tremendous. So thank you, one and all!
To my students, I want to challenge you to keep reading or practicing those letters and sounds. There are words everywhere - try reading them! Also, keep counting and practicing your addition and subtraction. Always keep learning and growing. Don't be afraid to challenge yourself, because you might be surprised at what you can do. I love you all and will miss you greatly. (I already do!)
Have a wonderful summer! And get excited for first grade, I know it will be a great year also.

Getting Ready for First Grade
My kindergarten class has worked very hard this year and most have been very successful. I am very proud of them all and wish them well as they go on to first grade.
Our Promotion Program will be Wednesday, May 23 at 9:00 AM. Until then we will be practicing, practicing. The students are looking forward to the program so that they can show off some of the things they have learned this year. We hope that every parent can come. There will be plenty of opportunities to take pictures both during and after the program.
The ending of a school year is both exciting and sad. The students are excited to go to first grade, but we are all sad that we will not be together again as a class. I will not be teaching next year, so this is an especially sad ending for me.
I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all the parents who have entrusted their children to me this year. I have truly enjoyed them and love them all dearly and will miss them very much.

Getting Ready for the End
Kindergarten is beginning to wind down. We only have four weeks until the promotion program and the end of school. Every day we practice, practice, practice. I believe it will be another great program, but then I am a little partial when it comes to my kids.
Lately we seem to be testing, testing, testing. First it was the Azela test, then the NEW and improved Azela test. Now it is the follow up test for the Journeys Program, and soon I have to do the DIBLES tests. We will all be glad when the testing is done and we can get back to our normal routines in the classroom.
I will be gone from May 3 until May 14. My family is traveling to South Carolina to watch my daughter graduate from Bob Jones University. We are all very proud of her. While I am gone, there will be a substitute teacher, and Miss Karen will still be there. Things will run as usual, even the practices.
Please mark your calendars for May 23. That is the day of our promotion presentation. The presentation will begin promptly at 9:00 am. Parents, please make sure that you have filled out the form for how you want your child's name to be printed on the program. You may want this as a keepsake. Bring your cameras, because there will be several opportunities to take pictures during and after the presentation. After the program is over, the students will go to the cafeteria for lunch, then get ready to go home because that is a half day of school. If you want to take your child with you after the promotion program, you are welcome to do so. That IS the last day of school.
I am looking forward to seeing you all at the program.

Magnificent March
March was a wonderful month for kindergarten. The weather was beautiful and the kids enjoyed every recess. We also enjoyed spring break and being able to spend a lot of time outside.
March 30 was our last field trip. We went to Enchanted Island at Encanto Park. It was so much fun to go on all the rides. The bumper boats were a favorite for a lot of the kids. The train and the parachute drop were lots of fun too. But I think the absolute favorite ride was the carousel. We had lunch at the park, then rode all the rides again. We ended the day by feeding the ducks and by taking a walk back to the bus.
Yep, March was magnificent.

Valentines, Presidents, and a zoo trip.
The kindergartners have had a great February! They had a wonderful time getting ready for Valentine's Day. They made cards and crafts and a container for their valentines. They colored pictures, decorated hearts, and loved every minute of the count down to "The Big Day."
Valentine's Day finally came and with it the party. Everyone had a fun time passing out their valentines and eating the snacks and treats that were brought in to share.
The students also learned about two of our presidents: George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. I taught them about each president, giving the important highlights and facts. After 2 days of learning about these two great men and all they had done for our country, on the third day I asked the kids to tell me something they had learned about the two men pictured. The response? "They died."
Our second field trip is coming up quickly. On March 1st we will be going to the Phoenix Zoo. Most students have their permission slips in and $6.00 paid. We have a countdown on the board so all the students can see how many days till the zoo trip. I had hoped it would stop the "How many more days?" questions but it just created more interest. Oh well, I have to admit......I'm excited to go too.

Happy New Year!
Welcome to 2012!! With the beginning of the second semester, the kindergartners now have spelling words. Each week they learn 5 new sight words plus a bonus word. Several students have learned the words so well that they get all 6 correct. I also have those students to whom spelling seems to be difficult and who often do not get any words correct. They keep trying though.
The kindergarten and TK1 classes have 2 more field trips before the end of the year. The first will be on Thursday, March 1 when we will be going to the Phoenix Zoo. We will need many parents to help supervise, so mark your calendars and get your chaperon form filled out. (If you haven't already done so.) The cost for the zoo will be $6.00 per person. This price includes the train ride for everyone and a carousel ride for the students. Please remember that no children may come except those registered with our school.
The second and last field trip for kindergarten will be to Enchanted Island at Encanto Park. This field trip takes place on Thursday, April 19th and will cost $5.00. We also welcome any parents who want to help, however we won't need as many chaperons for this event as we will for the zoo. So choose one or come to both...we welcome and appreciate your help! You can expect field trip forms to go home about 3 weeks before each event.
We are beginning to work on songs and skits for the promotion program at the end of the year. It is very important that your child is here every day so that no practice time is missed. You will soon be receiving a letter and parts for your child to memorize. Please help your child to memorize the part as quickly as possible. I really appreciate all your help in this area.
