At the Phoenix Zoo

Kindergarten went on their first field trip this month. We went to the Phoenix Zoo and had a wonderful time. The students loved seeing the animals we had studied and the special shows that the zoo puts on. They were really excited when a huge condor swooped over their heads from behind to land on the stage. Some other favorites were the lions (who were out walking around) and the giraffes and zebras. Another big hit was the train ride and the carousel. Many had never been on the carousel before and were thoroughly enchanted with it.

We are all looking forward to our Christmas program which will be on Friday, December 10 at 9:00 AM in the santuary at Liberty. I will have an update on it and pictures for my December blog.

Congratulations, Kindergarten!

The new year has gotten off to a great start! We are becoming a classroom family more and more each day as we get to know each other.

This week my class has earned a popcorn and movie afternoon for their great behavior and class participation. Thanks, kindergarten, for always trying to do your best!

Our first field trip of the year is coming up on November 18. We will be going to Shamrock Farms to see how cows are milked and to taste their milk and ice cream. Yum, yum! Check back next month to see pictures of our trip to the farm.

Zoo Field Trip

In April the kindergarteners went to the Phoenix Zoo and had a wonderful time.

For many of the students it was their first visit. So everything was new and exciting. We walked and walked, but while we walked we saw some very interesting animals. Some of the favorites were the snakes, gorillas, bears, and elephants. At 11:00 we stopped for lunch and some play time. Then we went on a tram ride to see the far eastern side of the zoo. We finished up our day at the zoo with a carousel ride. Again this was a first for many of the students. All in all everyone agreed it was a great day!

Kindergarten Update

We had a great time during our Teddy Bear Week. Last week we used counting bears for math, read all kinds of bear stories and learned about bears in the wild. Where they live, what they eat, and how they sleep all winter. We now know that is called hibernating. We also had a great time going on a field trip to Build-A-Bear and choosing a stuffed animal to become our newest friend. Then we brought our new friends to the Teddy Bear Picnic. We ate hot dogs, chips, cookies, and had punch to drink. We also played games and heard more teddy bear stories. Everyone agreed it had been a great week.

This week has been fun too. We celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday by reading many of his great books, coloring pictures and making crafts. He was a wonderful writer and creative artist. We enjoy reading his books and looking at his crazy, made-up creatures.

Our next field trip will be to the Phoenix Zoo in April. We are looking forward to learning about the animals and then seeing them in the zoo. More to come about the zoo.
